| | Career Development Grants | The new Career Development Grant has been developed by Heidi Hetz, the Equity and Inclusion Portfolio Leader. The grant seeks to support the career development activities of TASA members where these activities are not covered by other funding. Applications close TOMORROW May 20.

- Distinguished Service to Australian Sociology Award;
- Newly added to newsletter: Early Career Researcher – Best Paper Prize;

| Academic legacies: sociological lives then and now
TASA member Professor Fran Collyer and UK researcher Graham Crow (Emeritus Professor of Sociology and Methodology) will be presenting their research on retired academics. Fran's focus will be on sociologists' reflections of what sociology was like in the 1960s to 1980s in Australia and Graham's focus will be on what people in his study think they are leaving for colleagues in the next generation.

RC22 Call for Session Proposals and Organizers
| This week, we are introducing you to the new conveners of the Sociology and Ageing Thematic Group
(TG).
TASA's Sociology and Ageing Thematic Group aims to create a supportive network for sociologists working in or researching ageing issues across a range of academic and non-academic institutions. It also aims to provide a means to foster collaborative endeavours and to develop and disseminate knowledge – particularly in the area of theory, where sociology has largely been silent.
The new conveners are Marika Franklin and Andrew Gilbert.
|  | Marika Franklin commenced as an Associate Research Fellow in the Deakin Business School on 7 March. Marika completed her PhD at La Trobe University, Melbourne in 2019. Marika is an interdisciplinary researcher, and her research looks at the intersections between health, ageing and work (both informal and formal) with a focus on how capital shapes agency and opportunities for ‘living well’. Prior to joining Deakin university, she worked as a postdoctoral research fellow at Macquarie University in the Centre for Workforce Futures, and as a qualitative researcher at the University of Sydney, University of New South Wales and in the not-for-profit sector. She is presently working on an ARC DP project examining the demographic and social dimensions of migrant ageing and wellbeing in Australia, led by Professor Lucy Taksa. She is a member of The Australian Sociological Association (TASA) and Australian Association of Gerontology.
|  | Dr Andrew Simon Gilbert is a Research Fellow in the Social Gerontology division at National Ageing Research Institute (NARI). His disciplinary background is in sociology, communication studies, ageing, and qualitative research. He completed a PhD at La Trobe University in 2016, subsequently published as a book: The Crisis Paradigm: Description and Prescription in Social and Political Theory (Palgrave Macmillan, 2019). Andrew is an emerging researcher in health and aged care systems, including organisational issues and policy. He joined NARI in November 2018 to work on projects related to raising dementia awareness among CALD communities, the use of video-interpreting for home-based aged care assessments of clients from CALD backgrounds, and stakeholder perspectives of 'good aged care' in Australian aged care facilities. In 2020, he led a project called Integrated Models of Care, Health and Housing on behalf of the Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety.

The Migration, Ethnicity and Multiculturalism (MEM) postgraduate team is currently made up of 4 representatives that love being a part of the team. However, with some of the team growing and pushing out both PhD thesis' and real human babies in next 6 months (one of which has already done so!) we are seeking expressions of interest from candidates who might like to join the team and transition into this new role. This is a great opportunity to become more involved with the MEM thematic group, TASA’s largest thematic group, and extend your professional network!
