Dear ~~first_name~~,
As you are aware, TASA is hosting the World Congress of Sociology in Melbourne in a few weeks. The Congress is the largest meeting of Sociologists globally. Today, we are reaching out to all members in Victoria in the hope that we can get some more volunteers to help with the Congress:-) Volunteering comes with complimentary registration.
We currently have the following session times needing volunteers:
27th: two at 8:30am and three at 5:30pm
28th: four at 8:30am, six at 10:30am, three at 3:30pm and three at 5:30pm
29th: five at 8:30am and five at 10:30am, three at 3:30pm and two at 5:30pm
30th: four at 8:30am
To volunteer, please email Sally in TASA Admin, include ISA2023 WCS VOLUNTEER in the subject line and note the date/s and session time/s you can volunteer for from those listed above.
There are three scheduled training sessions for 'session room' volunteers to choose from (you only need to come to one session but you are welcome to come to all three!):
3. Monday June 26th at 7:30am - 8:30am (in-person at MCEC)
Note, tomorrow's online training session will be recorded and shared with the volunteers.
There will be a volunteer training session for the registration desk, held at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre (MCEC), on Sunday June 25th at 9am.
Volunteers receive free registration and a 'volunteer' t-shirt. If you are a student or are precariously employed and have had an abstract/s accepted for the Congress, you are still welcome to volunteer. You will be relieved of your duties during the time/s you are scheduled to present.
Important note: Each room will be equipped with a laptop that will be used for both in-person and virtual presentations. However, the volunteers assigned to room monitoring will need to bring their own device (tablet, or laptop), and headphones to connect to their device, so they can join the Zoom session, via Congress Wi-Fi, for the meeting room they are responsible for. This will enable the room monitor volunteer to see and hear what the Zoom looks/sounds like for the virtual attendees, and to be feet on the ground for the virtual tech team to help communicate audio/visual issues to onsite techs so they can be addressed promptly. Room monitor volunteers connected to Zoom, in this way, will be able to communicate directly with the virtual techs via Zoom chat, so the techs can help troubleshoot any Zoom issues that might come up in the meeting rooms, and can contact the volunteers if there are any problems affecting the experience for the virtual attendees.
The Congress is being held at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre as well as Crown Melbourne (across the road from each other).
To volunteer, please email Sally in TASA Admin, include ISA2023 WCS VOLUNTEER in the subject line and note the date/s and session time/s you can volunteer for from those listed in orange at the top of this email.
Many thanks in advance,
ISA 2023 Local Organising Committee
