I hope you've had a wonderful start to 2026! We have lots happening at the moment, including out TASA 2026 Postgraduate Bursary (applications close on the 24th of April), our first 'Sociology of What?' Masterclass on the 28th of April, and nominations open for the Postgraduate Impact & Engagement Award (nominations close on the 29th of May).
TASA 2026 Postgraduate Bursary
Applications for the TASA 2026 Postgraduate bursary close on the 24th of April at 5pm AEST. This is a fantastic opportunity to attend the 2026 Conference at the University of the Sunshine Coast. This conference is a great chance for postgrads to engage with the broader sociological community, share their research, and hear about the exciting and wide-ranging research being done by the sociology community.
The 'Sociology of What?' Masterclass 1: The Sociology of Gender & Sexualities
The Sociology of What is a masterclass series designed the give TASA Postgrads an opportunity to engage with and gain confidence in using sociological theory.
Our first masterclass The Sociology of Gender and Sexualities is facilitated by A/Prof Lucy Nicholas and Dr Rosie Clare Shorter and will be held online on the 28th of April 10:30am-12pm AEST. This session will invite active engagement and participation where you'll be working in small groups to apply theoretical perspectives to your own research while learning directly from your peers and facilitators.
To register: Please submit a short (200-300 word) outline of your research focus, how it connects to the masterclass topic, and what you hope to gain from participating in this masterclass. This information will help the facilitators to tailor the event to your needs.
Please note: To ensure the event remains small and participatory, registration on this event is capped. If you miss out on this event, but would like to participate in a similar event in future, please email postgraduates@tasa.org.au
Postgraduate Impact and Engagement Award - NOMINATIONS NOW OPEN
The 2026 round of nominations are now open for the Postgraduate Impact and Engagement Award. This award recognises the impact and engagement of a Postgraduate TASA member's scholarship that is of a high social value to Australian society and/or sociology. We invite TASA postgraduate members to submit an application (or nominate others).
Nominations will close on the 29th of May.
